September 30th is World Heart Day
World Heart Federation's most important annual event World Heart Day, which aims to increase public awareness and promote preventive measures to reduce cardiovascular disease and stroke. Kids' obesity and risks is major theme of the World Heart Day this year. Event is cosponsored by WHO, UNESCO and UN's Sport for Development and Peace initiative.
Even one drink a day may raise risk of breast cancer
Study finds, any type of alcohol, beer, wine, liquor, adds to woman's chance of getting breast cancer. Researcher Dr. Arthur Klatsky of the Kaiser Permanente Medical Care Program in Oakland, California, revealed their findings at a conference in Barcelona. Women who had one or two drinks in a day increased their risk by 10 percent. Women who had more than three drinks a day raised their risk by 30 percent.
Three Earth Quakes in Pacific Ocean
Three strong earth quakes struck near New Zealand and US territory of Guam. None of the quakes causde a Tsunami according to the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center. Earth quake of magnitude 7.3 registered near New Zealand's uninhabited Auckland Islands. After one hour another quake hit the same region of magnitude 6.6. Earlier, 215 miles south of island of Guam, another quake was reported of magnitude 7.1 by Japan Meteorological Agency, the USGS put the magnitude at 6.8.

Third Olfactory System
Researchers at the University of Maryland, have unlocked a mystery behind what is known as the Third Olfactory System. Olfactory System is the sensory system related to sense of smell.
New findings show there is a nose within the nose of mice which smells hormones and how this regulates salt and water balance in its body.
"It allows animals to detect food and determine that food's quality, it provides social information like sexual status about other animals, and it can warn an animal when a predator is present. Because of the great similarities between humans and animals when it comes to the sense of smell, the more we learn about the building blocks of the system, the more we will learn about how odors affect our lives." - Steven Munger, Ph.D., associate professor of anatomy and neurobiology at the University of Maryland School of Medicine and lead author on the paper.

2007 National Book Festival
Organized and sponsored by the Library of Congress and hosted by First Lady Laura Bush will be held on Saturday, Sept. 29, 2007, on the National Mall in Washington, D.C., between 7th and 14th streets from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The festival is free and open to the public.

Other hits by the director, Wes Anderson, are The Royal Tenenbaums and Rushmore. Anderson wanted to shoot this film in Darjeeling, India. "But I hardly saw the sun when I spent a few days there while working on the script," he chuckles. "By then, I had fallen in love with Rajasthan, and that is how we ended up with most of our work shot on a moving train through the state."

Arrested for Kissing Richard Gere
Indian Bollywood superstar Shilpa Shetty has been stopped from leaving country because authorities believe she is fleeing from obscenity charges. Earlier during a AIDS benefit event Richard Gere swept her in his arms and kissed her on stage. This "public show of affection" is considered a taboo in deeply offensive in India.

The Swastika Building
US Navy has decided to spend approximately $600,000 on perfectly ok usable barracks because When seen from Google Earth (satellite view from top), the barracks look like the shape of a Swastika.Building was designed and constructed back in 60's but there was no Google Earth then to spot the shape from top view. Now with Google earth being publicly available, some completely false rumors started spreading around about how this is all a part of a bigger plan of evil Nazi's. Probably covering the building with sheets will be a cheaper option than reconstruction !
