Epigenome

Epigenetics is a new area of research studying a layer of chemicals which surround genes and alter gene functionalities by switching them on and off. Chemicals do not change the genes bu just their chemical behavior. This suggests that knowledge of genes is not the answer to everything.
Study of these gene controlling chemicals will prove helpful in finding treatment and prevention cures for diseases like Cancer.
Recently the Keck School of Medicine of the University of Southern California (USC) received a $10 million gift from the Kenneth T. & Eileen L. Norris Foundation.
