Born to recently arrived Indian immigrant parents in Baton Rouge, Indiana, a Hindu by birth but converted to Catholicism in teen age. Name "Bobby" was adopted by parents after watching The Brady Bunch TV program. Chosen by Scholastic Update magazine as "one of America's top 10 extraordinary young people for the next millennium." Married to Supriya Jolly (born 1972) in 1997. The couple has three children, Celia, Shaan, and Slade.
