Created by Lúcio Costa architect and inaugurated back in 1960. Famous for its contemporary 2oth century town planning architecture. The city format is in the shape of a bird with a head two large wings spanning two perpendicular shafts. Ex-President Juscelino Kubitschek launched a competition for best architecture of a new city. Town planner Lucio Costa was the winner of the competition. Architect Oscar Niemeyer was responsible for the city's main architectural works.
